Albert Rickaway

October 17, 1928 — December 13, 2016

Albert Lee Rickaway, passed from this earth to heaven on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. Albert was born in Tivoli, Texas on October 17, 1928 to Robert and Anita Rickaway.

Albert met Joy Ann Herreth in Blessing and they married on Christmas Day, 1949. She was the love and joy of his life and together they spent 67 years as husband and wife, raising their three children. Albert loved his children, their spouses, his seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

After he graduated from Blessing High School in 1946 and after he married Joy, Albert served in the Army and later the National Guard as a 1st Lieutenant. Albert played many roles throughout his life; when his boys were young, Albert coached Little League, he served on the Brazoria City Council for 16 years, he worked at Dow Chemical for 39 years as an operator and later retired as a foreman. Albert loved The Lord and his church. He was a member since 1957. He served at First Baptist Church Brazoria in many capacities including choir, Deacon body, and a member of several committees throughout the years. Albert is a current member of the Heavenly Harmonizers and really enjoyed singing with them on a regular basis. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Brazoria. Albert had a side business as a carpenter, building cabinets and doing other remodeling projects. His hobbies included woodworking, golfing, reading books, and playing various instruments of which his favorite was the accordion. One of Albert's many joys was having coffee with the men at church. He also enjoyed many vacations and camping trips with the Reed's, Taylor's, Guillory's, and Herring's. Albert was an amazing father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved his family very much. He has been described by so many as a kind, strong man and a shining example of a faithful Christian. He will be greatly missed by all.

Albert is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Anita Rickaway, sister Dorris Barber, brother Eugene Rickaway, and grandson Robert Nathan Rickaway. He is survived by his wife Joy Rickaway, sons Lee Rickaway, Jr and wife Linnell of DeSoto, Glenn Rickaway and wife Dana of Brazoria, daughter Penny Kimmel and husband Glenn of Rowlett, Texas; grandchildren Jenny Bentick and husband Khary of Houston, Jason Kimmel and wife Sarah of Mesquite, Paul Rickaway of Dallas, Heather Commons and husband Brian of Lake Jackson, Megan and Melissa Kimmel of Rowlett, and great grandchildren Heidi Nyssen, Hallie and Wyatt Kimmel, and Dominic Bentick.

Pallbearers are Jason Kimmel, Paul Rickaway, Chuck Conant, Daryl Varner, Joe Odom, Riley Guillory, George Burke, Steve Moffett and Terry Williams. Honorary pallbearers are the Deacon Body and members of Albert's Sunday School class of First Baptist Church Brazoria.

A funeral service celebrating Albert's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Brazoria on Saturday, December 17, 2016. A viewing and visitation will be held on Friday, December 16, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home in Brazoria.
