Alice Hanzik

November 27, 1944 — September 7, 2015

Alice Vasek Hanzik went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 7, 2015, at the age of 70, surrounded by her family and friends after succumbing to a long battle with cancer. Known for her childlike spirit and feisty nature, she will be greatly missed. Known as Sis, Winky, Mom, Grandma, Mamoo, Great-Grandma and Friend, she was a loving person who would help those in need and give you the shirt off of her back. No stray animal was ever turned away from her home. She was a true "Love Ya Blue" Houston Oilers fan and a faithful fan of her Houston Texans (especially her J.J. Watt). Alice was also a talented pool player and, later in life, a voracious gardener. The first of seven daughters born to Irene and Adolph Vasek, Alice started life in Bangor Maine on November 27, 1944, but got to Texas as quickly as she could. She grew up and attended school in Fairchild and Rosenberg, graduating from Lamar Consolidated in 1963. She married the love of her life, Larry Neal Hanzik, from Needville, Texas soon after graduation and was married for 44 years before his death in 2007. Alice held a very special place in her heart for coffee drinking, breakfast eating, and shopping with best buds, Ms. Darla and Ms. Shirley. But, her love for her family overshadowed all. The family would gather at her home for BBQ. She would always be the first to grab the burnt skin from the chicken and run. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Jirard Hanzik, grandkids Alicia Hanzik and Jamie Jirard Hanzik, and sister Suzy Vasek, Alice is survived by sons: Larry, Jr. wife Annette and kids Errin, Cammie and Gerald; Steven, girlfriend Gina Hughes and kids Janea and Steve; Jason, wife Shannon and kids Crystal, Heather, Megan, Trevor, Julia, and Kailey; Jody, wife Elizabeth and kids Jodi and Jordan; Jamie, wife Jessica and kids Karmen and Truitt. She is also survived by sisters: Joy Lewis, Aimee Bollom and husband Keith; , Judy Sitton and husband Jon, Sara Eda and husband Gerald, Viki Allen and husband Duke, 13 1/2 great-grandkids, and many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at First Baptist Church/Fellowship on the Mound in Damon (1204 Mulcahy) on Friday, Sept. 11, 2015 at 4:00 pm with Rev. Kenny James officiating. In lieu of flowers and plants please donate to the First Baptist Church or MD Anderson Cancer Center, PO Box 4486, Houston, Texas 77210.
