Anita Villegas

Anita Villegas, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away June 10, 2016. She was born March 9, 1946 in Taft, Texas to Rafael and Aurelia (Castillo) Martinez.

A funeral mass will be celebrated 10:00am, Thursday, June 16, 2016 at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Freeport with Father Jesse Garcia officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Lawn Haven of Rest Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 4:00pm until 8:00pm with a rosary being recited at 6:00pm at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia. Serving as pallbearers will be Matthew Villegas, Dorian Martinez, Kevin Villegas, Rumaldo Villegas, David Villegas and Jose "Chops" Garcia. Honorary pallbearers will be Ruben Garcia, Steven Martinez, Mason Villegas and Xavier "Chevy" Villegas.

Anita is survived spouse, J. T. Helms; children, Vidal Villegas, Jr.& Dorothy Phillips; Velma Thompson; Virginia Villegas and Miguel Cantu; Victor Villegas and wife, Sandra; Vernette Rowden and husband, Ernest; Vincent Villegas; Annette Tamez and husband, Freddie, Jr.; and Alexander Villegas and wife, Celina; brothers, Lupe Mendez, Rudy Mendez, Johnny Mendez and sister, Elvia Soto; she is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Vidal Villegas, Sr.; son, Manuel Villegas parents, Guadalupe and Aurelia Mendez; brother, David Mendez and sisters, Sulema Rios and Gloria Flores.
