Betty Jean Lingo Bruce, 90, passed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on June 26, 2017, in Lake Jackson, Texas.
She was born January 10, 1927, in the old Sweeny Telephone Office where her parents, Joseph A. & Gladys L. Hutchins Lingo lived and worked. Betty graduated from Sweeny High School and shortly thereafter married the love of her life, A. T. Bruce.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brothers, Joe Lingo, Jr. and Billy Ray Lingo.
She is survived by her children: Judy (Cles) King and Joey (Louanne) Bruce of Sweeny, Grandchildren: Tammy (Larry) Odom of Sweeny, Bruce (Amy) King of Pearland and Destiny Williams of Sweeny, Crystal (Tim) Mullins of Sweeny, Colby (Beth) Bruce of Fulshear; Great-Grandchildren: Bryan (Brittany) Kluttz of Sweeny, Nicholas (Stephanie) King of Katy, Abby (Greg) Kluttz of Sweeny, Kyle Kluttz of Rockport, Braden King of Pearland, Jacy Mullins of Georgetown, Jessica (Cesar) Guerra of Lake Jackson, Meaghan (Kaleb) Boazman of Sweeny, KaLeigh Odom of Lake Jackson and Rebeca Reyna of Pearland. Great-Great-Grandchildren: Raelynn Kluttz, Carly & Carter King, KyLee Gonzalez, Timothy & Leah Guerra and Zachari & Eric Boazman. Sister: Donna (Bill) Lindsey of Angleton. Sisters-in-Law: Betty Bruce of Hewitt, Ruby Lingo of Sweeny and Rosie Lingo of Cypress. Aunt: Ernelle Orr Rayburn of Sweeny. Best-Friend: Lela Smith of Sweeny and Special Caregivers: Dr. Amin, Leona, Louella, Alicia and Sherry. As well as a large extended family and many friends that she loved very much.
Betty had a servant's heart and enjoyed volunteering as a "Pink Lady" for the Sweeny Community Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Sweeny where she served on the Benevolence Committee for many years. Some of her fondest memories were the friends she made while working at Murphy's Jewelry for over twenty years and later at Walmart Jewelry in West Columbia.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia on Thursday, June 29, 2017 and a celebration of Betty's life will be officiated by Brother John Price at the First Baptist Church of Sweeny on Friday, June 30, 2017 at 2:00 pm followed by interment at Sweeny Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will her great-grandsons, Bryan and Kyle Kluttz, Nick and Braden King, and nephews Nate and Jerry Bruce.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Benevolence Fund, Salvation Army or the charity of your choice.
