Billy Jack Ward, 69 of Sweeny, Texas passed away at Memorial Hermann Hospital on Friday, May 6, 2016. He was born November 6, 1946 in Bay City, Texas to Bill Cody and Martharene (Glass) Ward. He served in the United States Air Force from 1966 until 1970 attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He then began his career at Phillips 66 for 30 years before retiring in 1999. During Billy Jack's career with Phillips he was an Operator & Emergency Response Specialist and represented Phillips 66 on the TIESB (Texas Industrial Emergency Services Board) and TEEX Industrial Fire School in College Station for many years. He was a member of First Baptist Church Old Ocean, a charter member of Sweeny Fire and Rescue and helped commission fire truck #2. He served on the board of the Fire Department and was a member of the Old Ocean Masonic Lodge 1284. Billy Jack enjoyed coaching Sweeny Little League Baseball in his free time and then watching his grandkids play ball years later.

Funeral services will be held 2:00pm, Friday, May 13, 2016 at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia with his uncle, Pastor Grayson Glass and Pastor John Price officiating. Burial will follow at Sweeny Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, May 13, 2016 at Baker Funeral Home beginning at 1:00pm. Serving as pallbearers will be Doug Colvin, Greg Stroud, Jeff Ward, James Ward, Cody Anderson, Marc Turner, Ray Bailey and Neal Bess. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons, Zach Colvin, Peyton Colvin and Cooper Stroud along with the Sweeny Fire and Rescue.

Billy Jack is survived by his daughters, Tracy Colvin and husband, Doug of Sweeny; Robin Stroud and husband, Greg of Brazoria; brother, Robert (Bob) Grayson Ward and his wife, Mary Angie of Cypress; grandchildren, Megan Colvin, Zach Colvin, Peyton Colvin, Cooper Stroud and Brooklyn Stroud; nephews, Jeff Ward and wife, Amber and James Ward; niece, Mary Margaret Anderson and husband, Cody along with many other family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Martharene Ward.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Sweeny Fire and Rescue, 222 Pecan St. Sweeny, Texas 77480.
