The Lord once more has sent his angels to bring Calvin Ray, 58 years old, to his Heavenly home. We know that he only takes the best, sometimes taking home those we are not ready to say goodbye to.
Calvin was born on September 25th, 1965, in Freeport, Texas ready to take on the world. He spent his whole life in Brazoria County, jumping from city to city over the years. To say that he was a wild child would be an understatement, but he took the world by storm, giving it all that he had.
He was a man that could meet a stranger anywhere and turn them into his new best friend. He showed kindness and compassion to anyone in need without ever expecting anything in return. He was the type to give everything that he had if it meant that others could be happy. Family meant the world to Calvin. Always providing what he could to his family and Friends, he strived to make sure that everyone was taken care of and content. Many times, Calvin took kids under his wing when they felt that they had nowhere to go and gave them a place to call home. He never minded lending an ear to whomever needed to talk or protecting people that he cared about. He stayed true to his beliefs and never changed who he was for anyone. Calvin loved to stay active and try new things. He loved to go fishing, work on cars, play pool, bowling, attend BBQ cookoffs, hunting, and spending as much time with his family as he could.
Calvin lives in the hearts of his wife of 35 years, Carol Antoinette Helton, “Toni”, Son Joshua Helton, Daughters Amanda Kelley, Barbara Spencer, and Brittany Vargas. Sisters Suzanne Goad and Rachel Gunn. Brother Gregory Helton-Knight. 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren. His mother Jacqueline (Cabral) Ethridge. Along with many aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends along his journey on earth.
He is proceeded in death by his father, James A. Helton; Grandfather, James A. Helton Sr.; Grandmother, Ruby Helton; Aunt Tommie Sue Helton, Cousin Jimmy Dean Graham, Cousin Walter Keith, and Margaret “Peggy” Rae Groves.
Relatives and friends are invited to his memorial service on Friday July 26th, 2:00 p.m. at C.T. Baker Funeral Home 634 S. Columbia Dr. West Columbia. Friends may call from 1-2 p.m. to pay respects to the family.
