Charles M. "Trey" Kelso, III, 45, passed away unexpectedly on September 24, 2022 in Largo, MD after suffering a medical emergency earlier that week. He was born December 9, 1976 in Boston, MA.
Trey had more than 25 years of experience as Volunteer Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician, 22 of those years to Prince George's County communities in Maryland. He served as the Deputy Fire Chief of the Beltsville Volunteer Fire Department, a past Fire Chief of the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department and a volunteer safety officer for Prince George's County. Trey was a Fire Instructor for the University of Maryland Fire Rescue Institute and a designated Chief Fire Officer (CFO) through the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE).
Trey was a founding member of the Maryland Chapter of the Firefighter Cancer Support Network and was elected to the FCSN Board of Directors in 2012, where he served as the Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, up until the time of his death.
In addition to his passion for the firefighting community, Trey worked for 17 years as Project Manager and Implementation Services Manager for Dataprise, an IT Services and Consulting company in Rockville, MD.
Trey held a B.S. degree from Syracuse University and an M.B.A. from Frostburg State University. He was an Eagle Scout and participated in Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) in college. Trey lived in seven states during his life's journey - MA, CT, PA, TX, MN, NY, MD.
Trey is survived by his wife, Elena Lewis Kelso; daughter, Claire Kelso; mother, Peggy Kelso; sister, Kirsten Kelso; aunt, Kathleen Kelso Bromley; uncle, Bill Warren, and cousins, Tracy Warren, Paige Warren, and Dana Warren England. Trey is preceded in death by his father, Charles M. Kelso, Jr. and aunt, Pat Warren.
A memorial service was held on October 8, 2022 at the Laurel Fire Department in Maryland. A graveside memorial will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 19, 2023 at the cemetery in Brazoria, Texas, 113 Tennis St.
