David Darius Bowen passed in the arms of the Lord on Friday, June 16, 2023, on his and his wife’s 61st wedding anniversary, in a Pearland care facility. He was 85. David was born on February 2, 1938, in Mobile, Alabama to the late Sadie Viola Sullivan and William Jefferson Bowen.
David’s family moved from Alabama to Houston in 1952 where he attended Deady Middle School and Milby High School. Upon completing his schooling, he entered the U.S. Army in 1957 as a Communications Specialist. He became a master of Morse Code and acquired a passion for electronics. He was Honorably discharged from the military as a Sergeant but never lost his enthusiasm for communications or electronics. After his service in the military, he met and married the love of his life, Diann McDonald, on June 16, 1962, in Richmond, Texas. They were happily married for 61 years. On the day they were married, they celebrated their wedding night on the same piece of property in Brazoria County that they later purchased and built the house they still call home to this day. David and Diann moved to Pasadena, Texas in 1966. Here they raised three children, shared many memories, and watched their family grow. David will be fondly remembered for his wit, charm, and sense of humor. Over the years he had many hobbies including CB and Hamm radios, building and operating RC airplanes, building home computers, and his biggest passion, fishing. In fact, he built his own boat from scratch, and when it was complete, he had to convince the inspector that he didn’t steal it by showing him the blueprints and plans. He was an avid book reader and became self-taught in many disciplines.
David is survived by his wife Diann Bowen, his children Lisa Donise Nickelson and her husband Larry, Dena Leigh Bowen, David Darius Bowen II and his wife April. He is also survived by his grandchildren David Joshua Earley (Jana) and Parker Ryan Nickelson (Adrianna Moralez), his great-grandchildren Chloe, Aubrey, Bowen and Kylie and his siblings Raymond, Janice and Curtis and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings William, Lloyd and Alba.
