Dewey E. Weatherford

November 6, 1937 — October 19, 2024

West Columbia, TX

Dewey Edward Weatherford, aged 86, passed away on October 19, 2024, in Lake Jackson, TX. He was born on November 6, 1937 in Mabank, TX to Iva Mae and Duey Morease Weatherford.

Dewey's journey in the pharmaceutical field began at the age of 14 when he became a delivery boy for a small pharmacy in his hometown. He graduated Brazosport High School in 1956 and pursued his education at University of Houston until he was drafted, leading him to proudly serve in the U.S. Army's Fifth Army Headquarters Medical Branch in Chicago from 1960 - 1964. After his discharge, his academic pursuits led him to the Northeast Louisiana State School of Pharmacy, now known as University of Louisiana at Monroe College of Pharmacy (ULM), where he earned his Ph.D. in Pharmacy in 1967. He owned and operated five drugstores from 1967 to 1976. In 1976 he moved to West Columbia, TX to be closer to family and joined Eckerd's Pharmacy which later became CVS, serving the communities of West Columbia and surrounding areas until his retirement from CVS in 2014 after a distinguished 47-year career.

Dewey was selfless, godly, and humble, known for lifting others up without expecting anything in return. Over the years he was celebrated as a loving husband, father, friend, mentor, pharmacist and above all a great man. He had many interests including building and flying model airplanes, oil painting, fishing, gardening, camping, watching movies, and enjoying family gatherings. His commitment to his hobbies was only surpassed by his love for his family and community.

He is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia L. Weatherford; his sons, James A. Weatherford and Hunter A. Weatherford; his daughter, Denita K. Carlton; granddaughter, Kaylee M. Davis; grandson, Tyler I. Carlton; and great-granddaughter, Willow K. Davis as well as extended family.

Dewey was preceded in death by his parents, Duey M. and Iva M. Weatherford; brothers, Raymond "Sonny" Weatherford and Bill Weatherford; and daughter, Nadine A. Weatherford.

Dewey’s legacy is one of service, love, and commitment, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those he touched. He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. We love you, miss you and know you’re resting in peace.
