Donald Ray Hroch, 60, of West Columbia, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 8, 2025, surrounded by his wife, family, and friends. He went to be with Jesus, whom he deeply loved.
Born in Corpus Christi, Texas, on June 8, 1964, Donnie was the beloved son of Jeanette Hroch and his father, Ludwig Hroch. He survived by his devoted wife, Liane Wehmeyer Hroch; mother-in-law Timotea Pressello and her husband, Hector Pressello; biological children Ryan Hroch and Cody Hroch; stepchildren Christopher Lay and Ashley Lay; and his goddaughter and niece, Kylie Wehmeyer.
He also survived by his brothers, Brent Hroch (wife Kristy) and Michael Hroch (wife Passorn); brothers-in-law Tim Wehmeyer (wife Cristina) and Frank Wehmeyer (wife Karla); nieces Aryana, Kassandra, and Chattama; nephews Timothy (wife Samantha), Frank, Alex, Panin, Grant, Ethan, Matthew, and Dylan; and great-nieces Scarlett and Gabriella. He shared a lifelong friendship of 46 years with Tim Walsh, who was like a brother to him.
A Passionate Professional
Donnie had a remarkable career as a National Account Project Manager, System Design Manager, and entrepreneur. He was highly respected in his field, known for his expertise in fire alarm system design. Holding a NICET Level 4 certification, he designed fire alarm systems for major corporations, schools, churches, courthouses, and large retail establishments, ensuring the safety of countless people. His work was not just a career but a calling—one that he took great pride in.
A Life Full of Joy and Service
Donnie was a man who brought joy to everyone he met. He had a natural gift for making people laugh and brightening any room he entered. While he never sought the spotlight, he was always the fun, lighthearted presence that made gatherings special.
His faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of his life. He cherished his quiet walks in Columbia Lakes, seeing them as his personal time with God.
Donnie’s greatest joys were his wife, family, and friends. He loved hunting, fishing, BBQing, making different kinds of jerky, spending time with family, and keeping the pool spotless. He was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan and never missed a game.
A Heart for the Community
Donnie moved to West Columbia in 2017 and quickly fell in love with the small-town charm and community spirit. That same year, during Hurricane Harvey, he became a vital member of the Beaver Crew, helping build sandbags to protect Columbia Lakes from flooding. When most of the subdivision evacuated, Donnie stayed behind, standing guard at the front gates to prevent looters from entering. He also took it upon himself to BBQ meals for the crew, ensuring they had hot food while working tirelessly to keep their community safe.
Beyond his professional work, Donnie had a heart for charity. He actively participated in and supported numerous causes, including:
• Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research
• St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
• MS150 (Multiple Sclerosis bike ride fundraiser)
• Houston Food Bank
• Wreaths Across America (honoring fallen military members)
He was also deeply involved with Lambda Epsilon, a group of women who raise funds to help families in need during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Having grown up in a low-income household, Donnie understood the value of giving back and found great fulfillment in helping others.
A Life Well-Lived
Donnie’s life was one of love, laughter, service, and faith. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, hard work, and generosity that will continue to inspire all who knew him. He was a loving husband, father, stepfather, friend, uncle, brother, and son, and his presence will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
