Eunice Moy

January 4, 1925 — November 13, 2015

Eunice Eugenia (Baca) Moy, 90, of West Columbia, Texas passed away Friday, November 13, 2015 in Manvel, Texas surrounded by her family. She was born on January 4, 1925 in High Hill, Texas to Charles and Mary (Chudej) Baca.

Eunice is survived by her sons Edward Moy and wife, Debbie, and Gerard Moy and wife, Jean; daughters Sherry Moy, Celine Mathews and husband, Thomas, Jacqueline Moy, and Mary Beth Bowen and husband, Corrie; grandchildren Annika Moreno, Cody Bowen, Clayton Bowen, and Jarrett Moy; brother Melvin Baca; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Joseph Moy; her parents, Charles and Mary Baca; brothers Leo Baca, Jerome Baca, and Henry Baca; and sisters Leona Roeder and Lydia Schoellmann.

Eunice was a devout Christian and was dedicated to her Catholic faith. She was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church for many years and served in many ministries. Her favorite was being a catechism teacher. Her children remember her most fondly for her love of family and her Czech heritage - many Sunday afternoons were spent listening to polka music on the radio. Visits with her grandchildren brought her immense joy. She loved animals, especially her special friends, Maggie and Buddy. She was a wonderful cook, an avid seamstress, and a willing chauffer to many school, band, scouting, and other events. She very much valued the educational opportunities her children had, and she worked hard to instill the same values in them. She grew up on a farm during the Great Depression and learned how to be very self-sufficient. She could do anything around the home and farm, from plucking chickens, to making the best Czech klobasniky and kolaches, to growing all sorts of vegetables, plants, and flowers, and making new Easter dresses for her daughters each spring. As she grew older, Alzheimer's disease tried to take her memories, but she was a fighter and her children know that she did her best to hang on to as much as she could for as long as she could, and they know they saw her recognition of them in her loving eyes up until the very end. She will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank Harbor Hospice of Houston, Texas for their compassionate care during the past two years. Special thanks go to Latasha Delaney, Keysie O'Neal, and Tanya Horace - your kind and gentle care of our mother will be forever appreciated.

In loving memory, the following services will be held. Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia, Texas from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. The rosary will be led by Delores Kocian, Eunice's niece. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 19, 2015 at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in West Columbia with Father Lee Flores officiating.
