Gary Day

September 6, 1950 — November 3, 2016

Gary Lee Day, 66, of Angleton went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Nov. 3, 2016 in Houston Texas. Gary was born in Freeport on Sept. 6, 1950 to H. T. and Darline Frances Day. He graduated from Angleton High School in 1971. He served his country from 1971 until 1974 in the U S Army, serving in Heidelburg Germany, where he worked on tanks and instructed other soldiers how to work on them.

Gary was retired from Brazoria County Sheriff's Department, a honorary Brazoria County Calvary member, and a member of Beat the Heat. He was a member of Dragnet Racing Team and the proud owner and driver of "Whiplash", a 1970 model Chevelle representing the Brazoria County Sheriff's Department. As a member of the Beat the Heat program, he visited numerous schools and other functions to educate the young people of our communities about the problems of illegal drug and alcohol use, and the horrors of impaired and distracted driving. Gary's major push was to teach young drivers drag racing instead of street racing.

Gary had a magnetic personality like none other and never met a stranger. He was truly loved by so many! He always went out of his way to help others no matter what station in life. He was a great teacher and loved to share what he knew about things with you. Gary loved cars, everything from racing, fixing them and finding them. He loved his kids and grandkids and enjoyed watching their eyes light up when they "got it" or enjoyed that car he showed them. He loved life, people and most importantly his wife and family.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Columbia United Methodist Church 315 E 16th St in West Columbia with Dr. Mike Deaton officiating.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 36 years, Charlotte; sons, Shannon Day & wife, Melissa and Wyatt Day; sisters, Darla Frantz and Gail Pearson; brother, Jack Day & wife, Helen; grandchildren, Shawna Gigic & husband, Elvis; and Shayln Truitt & husband, Clint; great grandchildren, Allison Gigic and Kayden Truitt; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

We did not get near enough time with you Gary, but as heartbroken as we are today we are equally grateful to have "RUN THIS RACE" with our "G".

This was Gary's message for everyone, "For those that I know and love and for those that I don't know that well I hope that I've left a lasting impression. Keep smiling!"

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Gary's name to Columbia United Methodist Church-Audio Visual Account.
