George Buchta

George Joseph Buchta, 77 of Damon, Texas passed on to the Lord on Saturday, September 12, 2015. George was born on September 11, 1938 in Guy, Texas to Joseph Frank, Jr. (Joe), and Helen (Klima) Buchta. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Margaret (Barta) Buchta; and his brother, Raymond Buchta. George attended school in Guy for most of his childhood and then was sent to attend High School in Needville, Texas. He was a graduate of the class of 1956. George married Margaret (Margie) Barta on June 23, 1962 and resided in Houston for a short stretch before moving to Damon. George worked at several businesses. He was a farmer for a brief time; was a mechanic for Walzel Garage in Needville; worked at Houston Natural Gas and Barta Gin as well as Barta Brother's Propane. George, living a full life, became co-owner for Barta Brothers Propane in 1978 in Damon. George did serve our country as he was listed in the U.S. Army as an Army reserve. He was honorably discharged in the winter of 1962. He was a member of the Damon K.J. T. society #92 and a member of the Damon K.J.Z.T. society #85. He was a former volunteer for the Damon Fire Department and was a strong Christian in the Catholic Church. George loved his family and enjoyed the special time he had with his two grandchildren. George is survived by his three sons, Mark Buchta and wife, Marilyn (Kaluza) of Damon; Timmy Buchta of Damon and Matthew Buchta of Houston; grandchildren, Marissa Buchta and Miles Buchta of Damon; two brothers, Ervin Buchta and wife, Cathey of Nada, Texas; Jody Buchta and wife, Carol of Guy, Texas as well as numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family members and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:00am, Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Damon with Father Marty Phan officiating. Burial will follow at Damon Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening, September 15, 2015 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm with a rosary at 7:00pm at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia. Serving as pallbearers will be Miles Buchta, Frankie Maroul, David Buchta, James Buchta, William (Bubba) Buchta and Joshua Evans. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the K.J.T. #92 Society or to Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church.
