George Alfred "Opa" Hall, 77, of Sweeny passed away on Nov. 28, 2015 in Katy. George was born July 31, 1938 in Inverness, Florida to Thurston and Ollis Hall.
He is preceded in death by a daughter, Georgina; parents, Thurston & Ollis; brothers, Charles, Henry, Robert, Eugene & Billy. George is survived by his wife, Anna; sons, George and Robert; daughter, Donna; brothers, Claude and Nick; sisters, Juanita and Mary; grandchildren, Dana, Jordan, Brandon, Samuel, Gabriel, Aria & Maleki.
George joined the Army on June 6, 1960 and served 21 years until his retirement in May of 1981. He worked as a supply sergeant at various duty stations such as Ft. Benning Georgia, Ft. Bragg, NC, Ft. Campbell Ky, Germany & Korea. His awards include the Army Commendation Medal, Five Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Korean Defense Service Medal. He worked at the TDCJID Clemens unit for 19 years and retired in May of 2000. He served as Quartermaster for VFW Post 8551 from 2005 until 2011. He was ALL STATE Quartermaster from 2008-2010. He also received certificates from Brazosport College for Automotive repair and Diesel Technology. He was an outdoorsman who loved to fish, hunt and garden.
Funeral services will be held at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia on Thursday December 3, 2015 at 10:00 am with Paul O'Quinn officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm also at Baker Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sweeny Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Robert Hall, George Hall, Samuel Hall, Brandon Hall, Sammy Polk and Mark Howard.
