Glenn Marcus Sims was the sixth of ten sons born to Charles Edward Sims and Mary Edna Sims. Born on July 11, 1926, in Damon Texas, Glenn passed away peacefully on December 2, 2021, at the age of 95 in Shreveport, Louisiana. A proud, life-long resident of West Columbia, Texas, Glenn graduated from Columbia High School and joined the United States Army, serving our nation during the occupation of Japan. Upon his return to West Columbia, he married Hattie Mae Powell Sims on November 7, 1947.
Glenn was an industrious, hard worker. He worked for the Phillips plant in Old Ocean and eventually joined the Pipefitters Local Union 211, working in the petrochemical plants around the area. In the spring and summer, he farmed rice, often leaving home before sunrise and not getting back until well after dark.
A devoted Christian and family man, Glenn showed his love for Hattie in so many ways. He was a father who passed along his deeply held convictions and values to his sons. Glenn was so proud of his six grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was a member of First Baptist Church in West Columbia, serving faithfully as a deacon, a servant who regularly worked on the HVAC systems and baptistery.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Edna Sims; his wife Hattie Mae Sims; brothers Jackson, Charles Jr, Virgil, Milton, Henry, Floyd, and Ray. He is survived by his sons Marcus Sims and wife, Beth, and Dennis Sims and wife, Tena; grandchildren Marcus Sims II and wife, Kim, Laura High and husband, Josh, Chance Sims, and wife, Lacie, Kelsey Kruse and husband, Casey, Laura Railey and husband, Brent, Austen Sims, and wife Nicole; eighteen great grandchildren, brothers Perry Sims and wife, Katherine, and Lance Sims and wife, Mary Beth, multiple nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
The visitation and funeral service will be at the First Baptist Church, located at 226 South Broad St, West Columbia, TX. The visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. and with the funeral at 11:00 on Friday, December 17, 2021. Interment will follow immediately at the Cedar Lawn Haven of Rest Cemetery. Pastor Dennis Sims will conduct the services.
The family expresses their great appreciation for the staff at the Cottages at the Glen and the Chateaus at Montclair for the professional and loving care of Glenn in his final years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
