Gloria A. Tanner Sanders age 79, passed from this earth peacefully on February 22, 2018 into the loving arms of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She entered this world on December 17, 1938 in the rural township of Holly Ridge Louisiana. Gloria was the eldest daughter of Benjamin Tracey (BT) and Eula Tanner of Watsonville California. Gloria married Harold Eugene Sanders who was her Honey, and sweetheart. They raised their 4 children Calvin, Kathy, Allen and Dominick Sanders in Old Ocean Acres until they moved to Sweeny.
Gloria worked part time jobs while her children were in school. She was a very hard worker and friendly soul. Harold was an adventurer, so Gloria worked right along with him. Their first business venture was Roland's Restaurant which was a family affair for the Sanders Family in the early 70's.Unfortunately due to a recession they did not take the risk long and sold. Following the sale of Roland's, Gloria became a smiling and friendly face at White Auto for Jim and Rita McMillian. Once more Harold's adventurous nature took root, along with the love and support of his partner Gloria, he accepted a job in the Middle East for Aramco in the mid 70's, thus allowing the ability to provide better education opportunities for their children, as well as world travel for the family. They also saw family growth during this time, upon leaving the Middle East, they returned to Sweeny at the end of the 70's where Harold went back to Dow Chemical, and had their last great adventure by building their dream home and raising their amazing son Nick, who was the precious Light to their lives. They always said Nick kept them young.
Gloria was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was an endowed member of the Order of the Eastern Star Sweeny Chapter 837, where she served in various capacities, including Worthy Matron. During her more vibrant and healthy years she traveled the State visiting Chapters as well as attending Grand Chapter Sessions. Gloria dearly loved the Eastern Star and would take on whatever role she was asked until her health prevented her participation. She loved serving and loved the Lord with all her heart. Her gentle spirit and love for her family will be greatly missed.
The family will be receiving friends Monday, February 26, 2018 from 10:00 am until noon at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 pm at Sweeny Cemetery with John Price officiating.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, BT and Eula Tanner; her Honey, Harold Sanders; eldest son, Calvin; her youngest beloved brother, Gary Tanner; beloved Brother-in-law, Charles Overturf; beloved Sister-in-law, Dottie Tanner; as well as nephew, Benjamin (Benji) Tanner; and niece Bonnie Tanner.
