Hazel Adell Jeffries, 80 of Sweeny, Texas passed away in Houston on Wednesday, August 17, 2016. She was born July 29, 1936 in Knox City, Missouri to Pearl Everett and Arline (McFaden) Morrison.
Funeral services will be held 10:00am, Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia with John Price officiating. Visitation will be Monday evening August 22, 2016 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. Burial will be in Gorin Cemetery in Gorin, Missouri. Honorary pallbearers are her neighborhood kids, "The Early Street Gang."
Hazel is survived by her son, Robert Eugene Jeffries and wife, Donna; 4 grandchildren, Shannon and Clifton Allison of Richmond, TX; Matthew and Jenna Jeffries of Melissa, TX; Corey Jeffries and Shelbi Jeffries of Richwood, TX; step-grandson, Saul Shortt; 2 great-grandsons, Preston Jeffries and Aiden Allison; 2 sisters, Mildred Parrish of Gorin, MO and Betty Erickson and husband, Ralph of Gorin, MO; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Daniel, brothers, Junior Morrison, Jessie Morrison, Robert Morrison and Donald Frances Morrison, sister, Elma Lee Chancellor; nieces, Melba Tull, Wilma Parrish, Julie Jeffries Cholak; nephew, Tim Ed Morrison.
Hazel was loved by everyone in her community. Her home was the gathering place for the neighborhood kids for generations. Throughout her life, she loved and cared for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was known for her laughter, quick wit, and enjoyment of life to the fullest. Hazel loved to sew, garden and bake for everyone she loved. She visited with elderly friends, volunteered at the Sweeny Elementary School, the Police Dept. and devoted countless hours cleaning the historical headstones at Sweeny Cemetery.
In recent years, she could always be found uptown eating lunch with her friends and on Thursday nights at the Knights of Columbus Bingo Hall. She will be missed and cherished by everyone who had the honor to know her.
Due to burial being out of state, the family requests that any floral arrangements be potted plants or make a donation to a charity of your choice.
