James Wallace Mitchell, age 94, of West Columbia, passed from this life on Friday, November 8, 2024 at his home.
James was born on April 14, 1930, to Wallace Edward and Mary Jewell Mitchell in Kingsland, Arkansas. He attended school in Kingsland and then served his country in the Army branch of the United States Military. He came to Texas to work in the oil fields in the 1950s, then pursued a career in the Petrochemical Industry as a Welder/Pipefitter. He was a member of Local 211 Pipefitters Union for 50+ years. He settled in West Columbia, where he married Brenda Joyce Mitchell, raised a family, and designed and built a home with his own hands located on Highway 35 in Sweeny, where he resided for many years. He gardened and raised livestock and also operated a personal business for many years repairing appliances. He was a hard worker and a very good provider for his family. James retired at the age of 62. After retirement, he met and married Bonnie Mitchell. He raised Rat Terriers for many years and later Border Collies. He was a member of the Gulf Coast Christian Center for decades and cherished a personal relationship with his Heavenly Father. He enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout his life.
James was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, and sisters, and earlier this year by his wife, Bonnie Mitchell.
James is survived by four children: Donna, Debra, Suzette, and Brett (Lisa), his five grandchildren, Angela, Jennifer, Brooke, Shawn, and Justin; and multiple great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He also leaves behind his faithful furry friends, Gabe and Teddi.Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Wednesday November 13th from 2:30-3:30p p.m. at CT. Baker Funeral Home 634 S. Columbia Dr. West Columbia. His funeral service will begin at 3:30 p.m. with Pastor Bob Hankins officiating. Interment to follow at Sweeny Cemetery.
