James Nesbitt

James Onnie Nesbitt, 69, of Brazoria, Texas, passed away peacefully, Wednesday at his home in Brazoria.

Jim was the son of James Ferguson and Doris May (Johnson) Nesbitt. He was born August 1, 1946, in Reno, Nevada. He was a graduate of Brazosport High School Class of 1964, and attended some classes at Community College before entering the service.

Naval Air crewman 2nd Class Nesbitt was a US Navy Vietnam War Veteran, enlisting on Feb. 1, 1965. He served his country stationed in San Diego, California, aboard the USS Hornet, in the Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Ten, HS-10, "Warhawks", and Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Ten, HS-2, "Golden Falcons".

After serving he returned home to Clute, Texas, where he was raised. He married Hazel Pearl Lingo March 30, 1972, they remained married until her passing March 18, 2006. They had no children but were loved by many. He worked at Dow Chemical Company, retiring after 28 years where his father had also worked for 29 years.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Hazel Pearl Lingo Nesbitt; and one brother, Roger Conley Nesbitt (1949-2008); a half brother, Melvin Raffetto (1942-1985). He is survived by his daughter, Wendy Nesbitt Biela, of Virginia; special friend, Susan Downhill of Virginia; two godchildren, Jayme Durbin and her husband Jacob, and Lyndsey McKnight.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Davis Cemetery in Bon Wier, Texas. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 19, 2016 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia. Honorary pallbearers are Phil DuBose, Ralph Eddins, Rufus Carter, Howard Boyd, J.D. Hunsucker, and W.J. Jones.

The family wishes to extend thanks to Jim's friends for the care and support shown to Jim during the past years especially Phillip DuBose, Jimmy Don, and Fran Hunsucker.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Wounded Warriors Project, or to the hospice of your choice.
