Jerrial Crutcher

January 28, 1949 — August 12, 2016

Jerrial Layne Crutcher, age 67, longtime West Columbia resident, passed away Friday, August 12, 2016 at home surrounded by family, at approx 2:08 pm. He was a beloved husband, of 43 years, to Susan (Kaufman) Crutcher.

He is one of two children, of the late Ernest Adele Crutcher (E.A.) and Opal Maxine (Sims) Crutcher, born in El Campo, Tx. Jerrial had one brother, Gary Len Crutcher. He grew up in West Columbia, and was a mighty Roughneck from 1964-1967. He was a member of the 1967 Roughneck graduating class and proudly wore the Roughneck legacy to each and every game.
Jerrial dedicated his life to serving 30+ years on the Houston Police Department (downtown and Mykawa Rd. Location). This led to a lifetime career, starting as a Patrol Officer and later promoting to Lieutenant, in the Houston Burglary and Theft Dept. He gave his all throughout his life and will be mostly known for his honesty and loyalty. Many officers who worked under him, have said how honored they were to be in his squad. He was the Lieutenant you wanted to work under.

In spite of his longtime commitment to the Houston Police Department, his family was his priority. He rarely missed a ballgame, concert or football game that any of his children or grandchildren were ever involved with. Jerrial and Sue loved to travel in their personal RV but in return, he was always ready to come home. He just couldn't wait to be with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Susan (Kaufman) Crutcher, he leaves behind his children, two daughters, Jennifer Susan (Crutcher) Stark and husband Cecil Joe Stark; Holly Layne (Crutcher) Cantrell and husband Tommy Cantrell; one son, Jeffrey Ernest Crutcher, all of West Columbia. Four very loved and special grandchildren; Emily Layne and Shelby Jo Stark, Haley Layne and Reesie Chesley; Two nieces, Courtney Hohle (Tim) and Cari Vansau, Houston Tx.; Uncle, Ken Sims (Gini), Nacogdoches, Tx.; Special Neighbors: Charlene and Dwight Perry.

Serving as Pallbearers (Jerrials closest friends for many years); Frank Crocker, Doug Autrey, Ronnie Sassin, Larry Anderson, Michael Scarborough (Gerber) and David Smith; Honorary Pallbearers are Cecil Joe Stark and Tommy Cantrell.

There will be a viewing Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Baker Funeral home in West Columbia, TX from 6:00 to 8:00. Funeral Services will be held, Wednesday at 10:00am, August 17, 2016, at Baker Funeral Home, with Pastor Tommy Hogan officiating. Burial will proceed at Cedar Lawn Haven of Rest in West Columbia. Pastor Tommy Hogan is Jerrial's cousin and we know Jerrial would be honored that Tommy is officiating on his behalf. In Lieu of flowers: please make contributions to The 100 Club, Inc. 5555 San Felipe St. Suite 1750, Houston Tx 77056-5527.

Jerrial had many, many friends but it's said that a true friendship lasts forever. He found a true friendship with Frank Crocker (Kaye). They were inseparable from a young age. Wherever Jerrial went, Frank was not far behind. We thank him for that. We also would like to thank MD Anderson Hospital, especially Dr. Armeen Mahvash and Dr. Marina George. Upon leaving his final time at MD Anderson, Dr. Mahvash asked Jerrial, "Was all the effort we did, was it worth it?" Jerrial's response was, "Definitely, without a doubt." He loved his family and fought a long, hard fight to stay here with us. For this, we are forever grateful and he will forever live on in our hearts.

His wife, his children, and especially his grandchildren, we will miss him terribly...we are certain we will all reunite one day and everything will be perfect again. And when that time comes and we are asked, "Was all the life you led, that brought you to this point, was it worth it?" We shall respond, "Definitely, without a doubt."
