Joe Louis Gonzalez

August 25, 1953 — February 13, 2025

Freeport, TX

Joe Louis Gonzalez, born on August 25, 1953, in Kingsville, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025, in Houston, Texas, surrounded by his loving family. He dedicated many years of his life to working as a laborer in the construction business, where his hard work and determination were evident to all who knew him.

Joe was a cherished member of his community, where he became known for his remarkable ability to fix things. His family fondly remembers him spending countless hours tinkering in his shop, a place where he found joy and purpose. Neighbors would often bring their lawnmowers and trimmers to him when they wouldn’t start, trusting in his skills to restore them to working order. This hands-on approach exemplified his character as a true 'Jack-of-all-trades.'

An avid fisherman, Joe would never turn down an opportunity to spend time by the water, relishing the moments of tranquillity and camaraderie that came with it. His hobbies and interests brought him great joy, but above all, his proudest accomplishment was his family. Joe’s greatest source of pride was the love he held for them, as he dedicated his life to their well-being and happiness.

Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Teresa (Hammond) Gonzales; his daughter, Jeannie Levee of Bay City, Texas; his son, Joe Gonzales, Jr. of Van Vleck, Texas; and his cherished grandchildren: Mykal, Taytiana, Xander, Xavier, Donna Jo, alongside his great-grandchildren, Zane and Sophia (So-So). He is also survived by three siblings and many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss his warmth and guidance.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Jose Cruz and Gloria Santana.
