Joe Willie Kees, 91, of Lake Jackson, passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2018. He was born on August 13, 1926 in Camptie, Louisiana to Joe Stephen and Mildred (Smith) Kees. Joe was a graduate from Columbia High School in 1944 where he lettered in football, basketball, baseball, and track. He was also the boxing and wrestling champion in his weight class. After high school, Joe proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II participating in various campaigns including American Area Campaign, European Mid-E Campaign, Asiatic Pacific Area, and World War II Victory. Joe coached Little League Baseball in Sweeny for many years. His passion was hunting and fishing. He even was an inventor, inventing numerous items such as pecan picker upper, welding electrode holder and fishing lures.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Monday, May 7, 2018 at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia with Dr. Lynne Settlemyre of the First United Methodist Church of Lake Jackson officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 12:00 pm until service time. Burial will follow at Columbia Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Steve Kees, Billy Kees, Gary Kees, Jack Kees, Wesley Kees, and Bobby Nairn.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Clydene Kees; sons, Steve Kees, Billy Kees and his wife Karen, Gary Kees and his wife Videll, and Jack Kees and his wife Paulette; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
