John Dominy

John Franklin Dominy, 76, passed away Sunday, May 30, 2021 at his home in West Columbia, TX.  He was born in Cleveland, TX to James C. Dominy and Therma Lee Dominy on November 20, 1944.  John spent his childhood in Lissie, TX, graduating from East Bernard High School before joining the U.S. Army.  After his service, John earned his master's degree in Education from Sam Houston State University.

Although preceded in death by his parents, he is survived by his wife Sandra Hardey Dominy ,daughter Amanda Montoya and husband Martin, son Matthew Dominy,  grandchildren Avery Srebalus, Riley Grant, and Isabella Grant, brother James Dominy and wife Paula, sister Mary Hlavinka, and sister Jenny Talas and husband Edward.

John's teaching career included teaching in the Texas prison system, Dayton ISD, Lee College, and East Bernard ISD. At Dayton, John met his wife of 42 years, Sandy Hardey.  John also had a career in law enforcement starting in Liberty County.  He next worked for Union Pacific Railroad Police for several years until the death of his K-9 work dog Tenno.  He retired in 2011 from the Austin County Sheriff Department.

John's favorite times were spent with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren.  They have their favorite stories and memories of times spent fishing, gardening, hunting, and watching football and Gunsmoke.  He had a lifelong love of history, traveling and reading.

John's family and friends will have a memorial and celebrate his life at a future gathering.
