John King

John Wayne King, of Brazoria, Texas went to be the Lord on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at the age of 73. He was born on April 6, 1945 in Angleton, Texas to John Albert and Myrtle (Gilbert) King. John Wayne grew up in Wild Peach and graduated from West Columbia High School. He was an avid outdoors man who loved hunting and fishing.

After graduating, John Wayne married his high school sweetheart, Jo Ann Mitchell. After they married they moved to Sheldon and John Wayne worked as a welder for Cameron Iron. Eventually they moved back to the West Columbia area where he worked for several companies as a welder then eventually went into the family business with his father, John Albert King, and eventually he was joined with his other brothers and continued the family business after his father retired.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia with Pastor Paul Kethley officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Lawn Haven of Rest. Visitation will be 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Monday, February 26, 2018 also at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers are Harvey Cook, Gene Cornett, H. D. Warneke, Larry Hawthorn, Donnie Mitchell and Stephen Lastracco. Honorary pallbearers are special brothers-in-law, Robbie Mitchell and Wilbur Fee.

John is preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann (Mitchell) King; son, John Kevin King; father, John Albert King; mother, Myrtle (Gilbert) King; sister, Fannie Hempsmeyer and husband, Dennie; brother-in-law, Tommy Wiley; father-in-law, Joe Mitchell; sister-in-law, Barbara Mitchell; and brother-in-law, Gary Mitchell.

He is survived by his grandsons, Perry and Kade King, and Rylan Truitt; sisters, Ann Fee (Wilbur), Brenda Cook (Harvey), and Susan Wiley; brothers, Tommy King and Gary King; along with many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John Wayne's name to Columbia United Methodist Church 315 S. 16th Street, West Columbia, Texas 77486.
