John Long, Sr.

John Russell Long, 80 of Sweeny, Texas passed away Monday, October 31, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 9, 1936 in Big Point, Mississippi to Clifton and Mary Elizabeth (Stowell) Long. He retired from Dow Chemical after 24 years of service as an engineer, a member of Church of Christ in Sweeny.

Funeral services will be held 10:00am,Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at the Sweeny Church of Christ with Pastor Ken Hysten officiating and burial will follow at Sweeny Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday evening at Baker Funeral Home in Brazoria from 4:00pm until 8:00pm. Serving as pallbearers will be Cory Alexander, Jordan Alexander, Epimenio Chavez, Dennis Scott, Marcos Baez and Eduardo Rivero.

John is survived by his wife; Esmeralda Long; sons, John Russell Long, Jr (Melanie); and Gary Lee Long (Lety); daughter, Cynthia Faith Long; stepsons, John T. Alexander and Cory Alexander; along with sisters, Alma Henry and Ida Pearl Long Langston; brother, Thomas A. Long; grandchildren, David A. Long; Sarah M. Long and Jaclyn Nicole Long and great-grandchild, Eli Joseph Sanchez.

He is preceded in death by sisters, Vera Long Coleman and Elcy Long Furby; brothers, Robert E. Long and Billy Clifton Long.
