John Michael McCann, known affectionately as Mickey, was born on December 30,1943, in Houston, Texas, and passed away peacefully on December 23, 2024, at HCA Clear Lake Coronary Unit, surrounded by his loving family. He was a dedicated husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Mickey's professional journey as a union pipefitter spanned an impressive sixty years. He was a proud member of United Association Local 211 and UA 342, engaging in his craft across America, including an unforgettable work experience overseas in Norway and even as far as Alaska. His legacy in the industry is marked not only by his skill but also by his reputation as a steadfast and hardworking union member.
A graduate of the Columbia High School class of 1962, Mickey held education in high regard. He carried forward the values he learned into his personal and professional life. He was deeply passionate about his involvement in the St. John's Masonic Lodge #5, reflecting his commitment to fellowship and community service.
Mickey is survived by his devoted wife, Pamela (Tullos) McCann; his three sons, Phillip McCann, Brent McCann and his wife Jill, and TreyLee McCann; his stepdaughters, Lara Deckert and her husband Harley, and Jaime Etherington; along with numerous cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His grandchildren include Bailee Mitchell (Jeff), Gunner McCann, Garrett McCann, Laney McCann, Brady McCann, Mailia McCann, Harlie (Travis) Turner, Deven (Destiny) Deckert, Mason and Grayson Etherington, with great-grandchildren Collins and Sloane Mitchell, Cooper and Emmie Turner, and Easton Deckert who is expected to join the family in April 2025. He is also survived by his Sister in law and Brother in law Sherry & Duane Epperson.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Lee (Sanders) and John Harold McCann, Jr.
Relatives, friends and Members of St. John’s Masonic Lodge #5 are invited to his viewing on Thursday January 2, 2025, from 5-7 p.m. at C.T. Baker Funeral Home 634 S. Columbia Dr, West Columbia. All are also invited to his graveside service on Friday January 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at Cedar lawn Haven of Rest Cemetery.
Family request that in lieu of flowers, donation be made in Mickey’s name to either St. John’s Lodge #5 or the Columbia Christian Senior Citizens Center.
