Joseph Eugene (Jody) Buchta - Born 12/13/1945, Passed on 02/20/2025.
Jody was born to Joe F. Buchta and Helen Ann Klima in Wharton, Texas and passed away peacefully in Houston, Texas.
While going to school, he would rodeo and rode bulls for a short time. He loved horses, donkeys and trail riding, where he met his loving wife, Carol. He and Carol were married on June 14, 1980, in Fairchild, Texas and later moved to Guy, Texas. Jody enjoyed ranching, feeding his donkeys and feeding the birds outside his window, so that he could watch them while he sat in his recliner and watched old western movies.
Jody was raised in Guy, Texas and graduated from Needville High School in 1964. After graduation, he moved to Houston where he began working in the oilfield industry. He was employed by NL Baroid, later known as Haliburton, for 25 years as a welder and drill parts assemblyman, until he retired in 2005.
Jody is survived by his wife Carol, his brother Ervin Buchta and wife Cathey of Garwood, his sons William J. Buchta and wife Mallory of Blessing, and Jim Sivils and wife Linda of Needville. His grandson James Buchta and wife Jordan of Guy, as well as his daughters Yolanda Reid of Guy and Carol Hisaw and husband Jeff of Cypress. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren – who lovingly called him Papa Jody, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jody is preceded in death by his parents Joe & Helen Buchta, his brothers Raymond Buchta of Guy, George Buchta and wife Margie of Damon, cousins Albert Prihoda of Needville, Victor Pekar of Damon, his daughter Tami Roberts of Dayton, OH, one great-granddaughter Estella “Ella” Jade, and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim & Sharon Gardner of Channelview.
The Pallbearers are James Buchta, Justin Ernest, J.R. Petrosky, Chase Nowak, Frank Rosales, and Thomas Buchta. The honorary pallbearers are Travis Reid, W. Lee Hedt, Danny Hardcastle, David Buchta, Frankie Maroul, Ervin Buchta, Mark Buchta, Timmy Buchta, Johnnie Hurta, CD Kalinowski, Al Greising and Floyd Bell.
