Joyce Nell Willoughby

Joyce Willoughby of West Columbia, Texas, peacefully passed away in her home on July 25th, 2023 with loved ones at her side. Joyce was a loving wife, doting mother, and adoring grandmother who touched the lives of many.

Joyce was born on September 28th, 1940 in Beaumont, Texas to Mattie Byrd Payne and Howard Roy Payne. She graduated from Sweeny High School in 1959 and received her degree in Elementary Education from The University of Houston-Clear Lake. Joyce lovingly devoted over 25 years in Columbia Brazoria ISD as an educator, and she was honored with Teacher of the Year at Charlie Brown Intermediate School in 1994. Joyce was adored by her students and inspired many to pursue careers in education. Joyce enjoyed fifty-four wonderful years married to her sweetheart, Charlie Willoughby.

Joyce is survived by her son, Steve Willoughby and wife Carole, daughter, Judy Jenn and husband Billy, grandchildren Julie Bockelmann, Bethany Bailey, Trent Willoughby, Davis Willoughby, Amanda Willoughby, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to offer a special thank you to Joyce’s caretakers, Shirley Brown and family, who have lovingly stood by her side for nine years.

Joyce’s memorial service will be held at C.T. Baker & Sons Funeral Home, 634 S. Columbia Dr., West Columbia, Texas at 2:00 PM on Saturday July 29th, 2023.
