Kurt Alan Johnson, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and loyal friend, passed away on January 24, 2025, in Angleton, Texas. Born on November 29, 1953, in Flint, Michigan, Kurt lived a life marked by devotion to his family, pride in his work, and an unbridled passion for the great outdoors.
Known by those closest to him as “Pop”, Kurt enjoyed a successful career in civil construction, dedicating the peak years of his work with his son at Front Line Power before retiring to spend more time doing the things he loved even more; countless hours in the deer blind, any reason to use his tractor, and catching up with friends and family – as long as football wasn’t on. His commitment to his profession and making the first pot of coffee at the office every morning was only rivaled by his dedication to his family, which he considered his proudest accomplishment. An enthusiastic supporter of his grandchildren – especially when they became old enough to hunt with him, his grandsons relied on catching a glimpse of Pop as the first fan in the bleachers at their football and baseball games and his grand-daughters enjoyed his wood working projects.
Kurt was also a veteran, having served his country in the United States Army and earning his Honorable Discharge. This experience not only led him to Texas where he would meet the love of his life but also helped shape his discipline for time and his appreciation for the simple joys in life. In his leisure, he found happiness in hunting and fishing, activities that allowed him to connect to nature while creating lasting memories with his children and grandchildren alike on the families’ ranches.
For all who knew him, Pop’s spirit was perhaps best exemplified by his spirited enthusiasm as he cheered for his beloved Washington Redskins (Commanders). He celebrated the moments of joy in life, whether it was a thrilling football game, trying his luck on lottery tickets or making a quick trip to the casino.
Pop leaves behind his cherished children: Krista Johnson of Skidmore, TX. Kurt Johnson and his wife Audrey of Danbury, TX. Mandy Coym and her husband Jeff of Corpus Christi, TX and Annie Johnson of Midland, TX. He will deeply miss by his grandchildren, Courtney Lewis and her husband JD, Jadyn Calderon, Clayton Johnson, Bryson Johnson, Corbin Johnson, Kayla Edwards, Maci Coym and Brayden Coym. His great granddaughter Saylor Lewis will grow to know the love of her great grandfather so freely shared. Kurt is also survived by his siblings Marc Johnson of Durand, Michigan and sister Debbie Yankee and her husband Tom of Gaines, Michigan and his nieces and nephews.
Kurt is preceded in death by the love of his life, Charlotte, his parents Charles and Lorraine (Kautz) Johnson and his sister Sharon Mundy.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation at C.T. Baker & Sons Funeral Home in West Columbia, Texas, on January 28, 2025, from 10:00 A.M.to 11:00 A.M, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be private.
As we mourn the loss of Kurt, we also celebrate a life well lived, filled with lots of laughter, love and countless cherished memories. His memories will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched, guiding and inspiring them as they continue their journeys and find comfort knowing Pop is now in Heaven at peace in the hands of God.
