Leona Evelyn Schulze Panas passed away from this earthly life to her eternal home in heaven on January 13, 2025, at the age of 85 in Katy, Texas. Born on July 30,1939 in Northrup, Lee County Texas, to Ben P and Mathilde (née Reinhardt) Schulze; Leona was the youngest of 6 children. She was baptized on August 6,1939 at St Paul Lutheran Church. The family later moved to Giddings Texas. Leona confirmed in the Lutheran Faith on March 29,1953 by Rev Arthur Arndt at St Paul Lutheran Church Serbin, Texas.
Her confirmation verse was ‘Blessed are they that hear the word of God and keep it’ (Luke 11:28).
Moving to Houston around 1960, Leona worked for Computer IO at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo as a punch card operator and later as a secretary with Brown and Root. She soon met her husband, Basil “Bud” P. Panas Jr., and the two united in marriage on October 30,1965 and were married for almost 31 years. The union was blessed with one child, Basil P. Panas III.
Leona loved and cheered on the Houston sports teams, from the Houston Gamblers to the Houston Texans, the Houston Rockets and Astros. In her later years, she worked part-time until she retired. She also served as a Greeter at Trinity Lutheran Church, where frequently volunteered in other areas as well. Her hashbrown casserole was a favorite and would be requested.
Leona leaves to morn her presence on this earth, Basil (son) and Malia (daughter-in-law)Panas. She is also survived by sisters, Lillian Naskrent and Sidonia Hardie, Ruth Schulze (sister-in-law) and a host of nieces, nephews and their extended families, along with cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bud Panas, Wilber Schulze (brother), Paul Naskrent (brother-in-law) Arnold Krause (brother-in-law) and Ruby Krause (sister), Arnold Schulze (brother), Silvia Schulze (niece), Shawn Chandler (great nephew), Scott Ramey (nephew-in-law), Ted Tonn (nephew-in-law) and Terry Barnes (niece).
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Thursday January 23rd from 10-11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church 1512 Louise St, Rosenberg, TX 77471. Her funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Leona will be interred at Yelderman Cemetery in Damon, TX with a 2:00 p.m. graveside service on the 21st.
