Les Pettigrew, 65: A True Southern Gentleman known for his Charisma

To know Les, was to love Les. He was always the life of the party and had a special gift of enjoying people with his charismatic charm. He was eloquent, and always took a sincere interest in what other people had to say.

Leslie Frank Pettigrew, beloved husband of Eileen Long Pettigrew, father of Bradley G. Monroe Pettigrew, and grandfather of Isaac Parker Pettigrew and Jason James Lee Pettigrew, passed away peacefully of natural causes on the evening of February 28, 2016. Born in Freeport, Texas on December 1, 1950, Les was the second child out of five children born to Edna Earle and Delmar Pettigrew who reside in Old Ocean, Texas.

Les was a larger than life character who was loved and admired by many people. Les was the Manager of Dean Foods Distributing Company, Sweeny Branch. He was a leading member of the community, serving in the Sweeny Rotary Club, the Sweeny First Baptist Church Choir, Sons of the Confederate Veterans, Brazoria County Historian Society, 15th Texas Living History Association, Sweeny ISD Educational Committee, and countless other projects benefitting the colorful history of Brazoria County and the great State of Texas.

Les is survived by his wife Eileen Long of 41 years, son, Bradley, two grandsons, sister-in-law, Shirley Pettigrew, sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn Pettigrew and Kirk Long, sister and brother-in-law, Tammy Pettigrew and Tom Ennis, brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Anna Pettigrew, brother-in-law Howard Long and wife Donna, and numerous nieces and nephews. Les was preceded in death by his older brother, Rick Pettigrew and nephews, Jason Long and Richard Pettigrew.

Public visitation will be held at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia between 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2016. The funeral service will be at the First Baptist Church of Sweeny, Thursday, March 3rd at 2:00 p.m., followed by a graveside burial, Sweeny Cemetery.
As friends say, Les was gifted in making everyone laugh with his intelligent humor and quick wit. Les Pettigrew was a true southern gentleman who loved God, his family and life.
