Lois Mcelrath

October 10, 1918 — May 6, 2016

Lois Elizabeth Bishop McElrath passed away peacefully on May 6, 2016, in New Braunfels, TX. She was born on October 10, 1918, in Victoria, TX, to Elizabeth Brown Bishop and William Pitts Bishop.

Lois graduated from Patti Welder High School in Victoria and afterward Victoria College. She then began working at Groce Wearden in Bay City, TX, where she met her husband, Carl E. McElrath. In 1938 she and Carl moved to Brazoria, TX, where home was there for them for fifty plus years. Lois began working for Hopkins Telephone Co. which later became Brazoria Telephone Company. When Brazoria set up city government, she left the phone company for two years to organize books for Brazoria and then returned to Brazoria Telephone where she remained until her retirement 40 years later. Lois' favorite job of all was probably being a mother and grandmother. She was passionate about her grandchildren. Nothing made her happier these last years than visits from them.

Lois was preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband of 73 years, Carl; sister, Marguerite Creighton and brothers, W.P. "Buster" Bishop and W.M. "Pap" Bishop.
She is survived by daughters, Jo Beth McElrath of Canyon Lake, TX; Lizette Alexander of Coleman, TX, grandson, Tye Alexander of Cedar Lane, TX; granddaughter, Whitney Alexander of Coleman, TX and nieces Elizabeth "Liz" Sedlacek of Seguin, TX, Annette Russell of Metairie, Louisiana and Bonnie Barry of Belmont, TX.

Services will be held 1:00pm, Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at First Presbyterian Church in Brazoria with Reverend Dr. Emory Glover officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00pm until 7:30pm, Monday, May 9, 2016, at Baker Funeral Home in Brazoria. Pallbearers will be Tye Alexander, Danny Alexander, Gary Shanks, Tom Sedlacek, Riley Guillory and Manis Griffin.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Seguin Assisted Living and their employees, and to the nurses, aids and administration of Eden Hill Communities for the services and care they provided to Lois and her family in her final months of life.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Brazoria Historical Society or to the church in her memory.
