Louise Drake

Louise Lavonne Drake was born October 13, 1928, in McIntosh, OK, and went to be with the Lord on December 2, 2020 in New Braunfels, TX.

Lavonne was raised in Pharr, TX and graduated from Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos, TX where she met Charles, her husband of 57 years. She loved children and worked as an elementary school teacher, but eventually made the decision to stay at home to raise her family in Sweeny, TX. Lavonne was a long-time, devoted member of First Baptist Church of Old Ocean and spent much of her time volunteering in her community. “Mamaw,” as she was lovingly called by her grandchildren, enjoyed sewing, cooking, and baking her famous cookies and sourdough bread to share.

Lavonne is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Drake; son, David Drake; parents, Amos and Sarah Belle Lackey; and sister, Mary Joyce Schwartz. Lavonne is survived by her children, Mark Drake and wife, Terri, of Canyon Lake, TX, Susan Irwin and husband, Steve, of Sweeny, TX, and Clay Drake and wife, Elaine, of Montgomery, TX; and brother, George Lackey of Pharr, TX. She is also survived by grandchildren, Greg Drake (Lori), Shellie Irwin, Stefanie van de Bruinhorst (Michael), Seth Irwin (Wendy), Kathryn Drake and Lance Drake, as well as nine great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at Sweeny Cemetery with John Price officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First Baptist Church Sweeny Mission Fund (402 N Main St., Sweeny, TX 77480 / www.fbcsweeny.org) or Hope Hospice (611 N. Walnut Ave., New Braunfels, TX 78130 / www.hopehospice.net).
