Marjorie Mcfadden

July 12, 1933 — March 28, 2017

Marjorie Rezabek McFadden was born on a farm near Medford, Oklahoma on July 12, 1933, and died at 3:49, on March 28, 2017. She was 83. Marj attended the Jefferson and Medford schools where she graduated as valedictorian in 1951. She then spent two years at Northern Oklahoma Junior College in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. There she met "the most interesting man" she ever knew, Russell McFadden, whom she later married. Marj then transferred to Central State University in Edmond where she graduated at the top of her class with twin majors in English and Elementary Education while at Central she enjoyed drama, playing Lady McBeth, and writing. She won the Southwest Literary poetry contest with a sonnet titled, "Soil", a reflection of her love for the land. Marj taught at John Marshall High School in Oklahoma City until 1956 when she and Russell moved to Freeport, Tx, where Russell was employed by Dow Chemical. Marj was a stay-at-home mom until 1974. During those years she was active in the League of Women Voters, the Wednesday Review Club, and serving as a Bible teacher and elder at the First Presbyterian Church of Freeport, TX. In 1974, Marj returned to teaching 5th grade, and greatly enjoyed her 20 years of teaching at Stephen F. Austin Elementary in Jones Creek, TX. She and Russell also made their home there until 1998. After their retirement, she and Russell moved to Gayle Estates in West Columbia, TX. Marj became an active member of Bethel Presbyterian Church where she taught Junior High Sunday school and Women's Bible study. In 2006, she was nominated as one of the "National Women of Faith" in the Presbyterian Church.

After 58 years of marriage, Marj was preceded in death by her husband, Russell. She is also preceded in death by her brothers, Bernard and Ernest Rezabek, and her sisters, Erma and Mary Ann Rezabek.

Those left to remember her are her dog, Buddy, son, Mark McFadden of West Columbia, TX., daughter, and her husband, Mary and William Kidd, of Leander, TX., daughter, and her husband, Rose Ann and Lee Hopwood, of Addison, TX., grandchildren, Jessica Stark of Austin, TX, Samuel Kidd of Leander, TX, and Annalee Hopwood of Addison, TX. Marj will also be remembered by several nieces, nephews and younger cousins (whom she bossed around and forced to "play school").
