Mary Cornett

Mary Kathryn Cornett, 98, began her heavenly journey on Saturday, February 20, 2016. Mary K. is preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm Cornett; father, Steven Mayo; mother, Bessie Mae Blue; stepfather, Charles Wilson; and brother, Steven Mayo. She is survived by her sons, Ray M. Cornett and wife, Sharon of Quintana, Texas; and Gene Cornett and wife, Gloria of Houston, Texas; Grandchildren, Tay Parthum and wife, Karri; Susie Miller and husband, Richard; Tim Parthum; Hope Williamson and husband, Steve; Dottie Cornett; Shari Wright; Justin Cornett and wife, Mary; Mandy Lauderdale and husband, Jeff; Great-grandchildren, Keith Bachelder; Lindsey Withrow; Danielle Garcia; Chad Miller; Arin Parthum; Stevie Williamson; Blaine Parthum; Mary Kate Cornett; Harrison Cornett; Charlotte Cornett; and Hunter Brooke Lauderdale; 6 great-great-grandchildren and numerous family and friends.

Mary K. was born in Ennis, Texas on June 14, 1917 and lived in Corsicana, Texas until her early teens. She then moved to Brazoria County where she graduated from West Columbia High School in 1934. She married Malcolm on August 11, 1934. They lived in Wild Peach, Texas where they raised their two sons and she worked at Chesney's Jewelry Store with the beloved Chesney family. They moved to Houston, Texas in 1949 where she worked at Foley's and Sakowitz as a personal shopper and bridal consultant. She retired in 1982 and they moved to Quintana, Texas where she would become mayor of Quintana for 7 years. She was a member of both the Houston and Brazosport chapter of Soroptimists and held the title of president for several terms. She was known all over Brazoria County for her famous rum cakes. She was a strong and amazing woman that was very active in her community and church. She will be greatly missed by both family and friends. She will always be in our hearts.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at 2pm at the First United Methodist Church of Freeport, 1600 W. Broad St., Freeport, Texas 77541 with interment at Brazoria cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 24, 2016 from 6pm to 8pm at Baker Funeral Home, West Columbia, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Donnie Cornett, Rick Cornett, Tay Parthum, Tim Parthum,
Jeff Lauderdale, and Richard Miller. Honorary Pallbearers will be Arin Parthum, Keith Bachelder, Rick Garcia, Chad Miller, & Stevie Williamson.
