Obituary for Mary Joyce Childs Gregory
Mary Joyce Childs Gregory, age 90, of Brazoria, Texas, met her Savior face-to-face on April 5, 2025. She was born on July 2, 1934, to Jack and Louis Childs and lived a life filled with deep love, laughter, and legacy.
A woman of strength, wit, and heart, Mary worked for Southwestern Bell for 34 years and served as President of the Nassau Bay Telephone Company. She was known throughout her community as a beloved bingo caller, a passionate coin collector, and an amateur genealogy expert. Long before digital genealogy took off, she was her family's very own “ancestry.com.”
Mary found joy in the thrill of casino slots, the beauty of nature, and the laughter of five generations gathered together. She was a proud descendant of the American Revolution and even prouder of her legacy as a mother and grandmother.
Mary is survived by her devoted son Lloyd Gregory Jr. and wife Lori Gregory; grandchildren Anthony and wife Amy, Brandon and wife Candi; her sister Barbara Phelps and husband John; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, and her neighbors Mammie Stewart, Tim and Susan Moses and numerous family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Lloyd Gregory Sr., parents Jack and Louis Childs, brother Alfred Wayne Childs, and her very well loved chihuahua Miss Bell.
Pallbearers are Anthony Gregory, Brandon Gregory, Bryan Cochran, Noah Gregory, Harrison Gregory, and Paul Gregory
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Thursday April 10th from 9-10 a.m. at C.T. Baker Funeral Home 634 S. Columbia Dr., West Columbia. Her celebration of life will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Brazoria Cemetery. All are invited to join the family for a lunch reception afterward at 402 West Louisiana Street in Brazoria.
In honor of Mary’s love of life and growth, the family kindly asks for potted plants in lieu of cut flowers.
The Gregory family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers, friends, and community who surrounded Mary with love and support. Her legacy, laughter, and love will live on through all who knew her.
