Mary Lou Martin Reid passed away peacefully Sunday, September 10, 2023, after a brief illness. She was born in Three Rivers, TX on February 9, 1948, to Staton and Joyce Martin of George West, TX. She graduated from George West High School in May 1966. She then went on to graduate from Texas A&I in Kingsville in 1970, transferring to the University of Houston and receiving her master's degree in medical records management. Mary Lou is preceded in death by her mother, Joyce Evelyn Martin, father, Staton Martin, brother Staton Anthony (Bucky) Martin and beloved husband, Jackie Reid. She is survived by her sister, Penney Lucia Spies and sister-in-law Karen Martin. Her stepmother Nancy Martin and nephews, Martin Bomer, Thomas Bomer and Adam Martin. Great nephews and nieces, Brigitte Bomer, Kevin Bomer, Miranda Bomer, Matthew Bomer and Hannah Bomer. She is best known for her love of travel, photographing nature in all its forms. Our family cherished her photo presentations of fish and aquatic creatures she photographed during her many scuba diving trips. She met Jackie Reid while on diving trips and soon they fell in love. Jackie was also a well-known photographer himself and thus it was a match made in heaven. Jackie and Mary Lou were married in May of 1994. Together they traveled to exotic places around the world. Taking pictures of underwater creatures, birds and just about every type of wildlife they experienced during their travels. Amazing pictures of hummingbirds frozen in the air to tiny clown fish hiding in sea anemones. She loved watching sports and was a huge Houston Astros fan. Mary Lou also had a passion for arts & crafts. She made the most beautiful wreaths. Our wreaths made by Mary Lou's hand are cherished reminders of her beauty and kindness and they will be in our families for generations to come. When she wasn't photographing the world or creating a beautiful wreath, you could find her outside in her backyard preparing a new raised garden bed. Throughout her backyard she had vegetable gardens, flowerpots and of course her favorite grilling pits. She had so many more adventures ahead of her. Before she passed, she told us she had a great life and was ready to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. Rest in peace Mary Lou Martin Reid!
Also, in lieu of flower, Mary Lou asked that donations be made to the Home - SPCA of Brazoria County animal shelter.
