Mary Smith

Mary Alice Smith was born in Norman, Oklahoma (Tecumseh) at home to Duncan E. Bess and Gladys Banning Bess on July 21, 1926. At an early age moved to Sautel, California. Went to school for three years with Marilyn Monroe (Norma Jean Baker) at West Wood Village Junior High in Sautel, California. From Sautel, parents moved to Reno, Nevada. At the end of the 11th grade moved to Millett, Texas went to Cotulla High School and then Dilley High School.
She married Harold Gillespie on December 27, 1943. Harold passed away January 1945. To his marriage a son was born, Lynus Duncan Gillespie. Married Leroy Ray Smith on May 5, 1947; Leroy passed away January 14, 2004. To this marriage two sons were born, Donald Ray Smith and Rickey Daryl Smith.

Preceded in death by her parents, Duncan and Gladys Bess; first husband, Harold Gillespie; second husband, Leroy Smith; sister, Alpha Mae Zahn; brother, Michael Leroy Bess.
Left to cherish her memories are sons, Lynn Gillespie (Judy); Donnie Smith (Jana); Rickey Smith (Tommie Ann); sister, Sharon Blackmar; 7 grandchildren, Kim Lybarger (Rick), Kelly Gillespie (Michelle), Kasey Eaglin (Matt), Heather Grizzle (Jay), Kevin Smith (Steffany), Leigh Anne Marcelle (Moses) and Samuel Smith; 14 great-grandchildren, Joey, Stephanie, Taylor, Grayson, Parker, Alexis, Morgan, Macie, Liam, Cameron, Kysa, Kharle, Oliver, Madison and Alexis along with a niece and a nephew.

Funeral services will be held 12:00pm, Friday, July 15, 2016 at Brazoria First Assembly with Pastor Dale Frankum officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00am until service time. Burial will follow at Restwood Memorial Park Cemetery in Lake Jackson.
