Maxine Holmes, 95 of Damon who lived in McDonough, Georgia passed away Sunday, January 1, 2017. She was born August 23, 1921 in Newby, Oklahoma to Allen Ted and Mary Marie (Armstrong) Brown. Maxine served in the United States Navy during WWII. She married Hershel George Holmes on December 30, 1944 in Corpus Christi, who preceded her in death in 2004. Maxine dedicated her life's work to supporting her faith and ministry in the Baptist church, and retired a pastor's wife.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, January 6, 2017, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 7, 2017. Both services will be held at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia. Burial will follow the Saturday service at Damon Cemetery. Maxine is survived by her daughter, Johnnie Dale Rose of Brazoria; granddaughter, Shellie Joni Potter and husband, Clinton Dean Potter of Georgia; granddaughter Sherry Rose of Brazoria; great-granddaughter, Tiffani Gayle Potter of Mississippi; and great-great granddaughter, Makenzie Austyn Potter of Mississippi, along with numerous nieces and nephews and other family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Hershel George Holmes; son-in-law, Anthony John Rose, brother, Ted Allen Brown step-father, J.A. Castleberry, father Allen Ted Brown and mother, Mary Marie Castleberry.
