Melissa Tomlin

May 17, 1954 — November 1, 2016

On November 1, 2016 we lost an amazing Mother, Nana, and Friend, as Melissa Jane Courville Tomlin, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Melissa was surrounded by family and many members of the nursing staff at UTMB that had become some great friends, during her long stays in the hospital. Melissa had been fighting a hard battle with acute leukemia since her diagnosis in June 2016, and even though her battle was short it was fierce. Melissa has been an important part of many lives during the 42 years she has lived here in West Columbia. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, and always a fixture at Lucy's Mexican Restaurant, where she knew what you wanted as soon as you walked in the door, or she answered the phone. Melissa was loved by all, and there will be a spot that can never be filled in many lives.

Melissa was born May 17, 1954 to Dempsey and Lois Courville in Bay City, Texas. She moved to West Columbia in 1974 where she raised her family, and lived ever since. Melissa is survived by her Mother, Lois King, of Bay City Texas, Sister, Celeste Courville, of Bay City Texas, daughter, Teanna Kasarda, husband Jim, and their two sons, Tucker and Ty. Her son J.D. Tomlin, from San Marcos, Texas and his fiancé, Rebecca Hernandez, and their children Cheyenne and Hunter. She is preceded in death, by her father Dempsey Courville, of Bay City, Texas.

Services will be held on Saturday November 5, 2016, at Baker Funeral Home at 2:00pm, in West Columbia. An interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Cemetery. A meal will be provided for friends and family, at the West Columbia Volunteer Fire Department following the service.

Visitation will be held Friday November 4, 2016 from 6-8 pm at Baker Funeral Home. Services will be officiated by Clinton Tomlin and pallbearers will include: Mitch Richmond, Johnny Rodriguez, Scott Booth, John Paul Vancil, David Jones and Glenn Jerrell.

The Lord is a good stronghold in the day of trouble; He knows who takes refuge in Him. Nahum 1:7
