Mildred Ward, 'Mother', 'Mimi', 'Ole Mildred', passed away peacefully on September 24, 2016, at the sweet age of 91. Hers was a life well lived - a journey well taken. She brighten a room with her contagious smile and warm embrace. She welcomed family, friends and complete strangers with sincere southern hospitality and genuine affection.
Mildred was born in Grenada, Mississippi on December 12, 1924. She was married to Curtis
B. Ward on October 2, 1944 at the Naval Air Station Chapel in Pensacola Florida; they were happily married for 46 years. Their early married life was spent in several states while in the Navy and college. Following college they moved to Texas. They spent most of their married life in Dickinson, TX where Mildred was very involved in her community & church. She whole� heartedly supported all team sports, civic & school activities with her three children. In 1979, following a love for playing golf and looking forward to retirement, Curt and Mildred moved to Columbia Lakes in West Columbia, TX where she was enjoyed a robust life until just recently.
Mildred is survived by her children: Diane Solomon and her husband Vernard, of Marshall, TX and her son David Ward and his wife Denise, of League City TX. Grandchildren Shannon Solomon, Coke Solomon, Kylie & Bill Rapp, Brad & Meredith Harris, Bill & Amy Ward, great� grandchildren, Charlotte & Camille Harris, Brianna and Grant Solomon along with nieces, nephews and many other family and friends.
Mildred is preceded in death by her parents H.B. & Claudia Wilder, her husband Curtis B. Ward, her son Kenneth C. Ward, her brother & sister-in-law Hoyt & Annie Wilder.
Mildred had a deep love and devotion to Jesus Christ. She looked for every opportunity to talk about Him and to extend an invitation to attend church or bible study with her. She participated in mission trips, taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School; she cooked and generously shared anything she had been given with the hope that others might come to know and enjoy a relationship with Christ. She was very active in her community. She loved people and she loved to travel. She was always ready to go. She lived life fully and will be missed greatly.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00am, Thursday, October 6, 2016 at First Baptist Church in West Columbia with Pastor Ryan Lintelman officiating. Visitation will be held at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Wednesday, October 5, 2016. A private family burial service will follow at Houston National Cemetery.
