Patrick Bernshausen

Patrick Odell Bernshausen passed from the earth on March 11, 2016 at the age of 65. He spent his entire life in Sweeny, Texas. While a youngster of age 10 or 11, he met his future wife, Cindi Minze, who lived right across the street on 6th street in Sweeny. Sadly they moved to Clute, Texas a short time later.

Patrick graduated from Sweeny High School in 1969. He began working for Phillips 66 in 1971. While at a dance at the Eagle's Hall in Bay City, Texas he met up with Cindi Minze again and they married on May 26, 1972. Brandon James was born on July 12, 1973. With a family now, Patrick felt he needed to make more money so he quit Phillips 66 and went to work as a contract pipe designer in 1973. In October, 1975 he was hired direct with Dow Chemical and spent the next 35 years at the Freeport site. On July 5, 2010, Patrick lost his wife and true love, Cindi. He retired from Dow on January 31, 2011. Still needing something to occupy some time, Patrick went back to work in Dow as a contractor in March 2011.

Patrick enjoyed playing golf with his friend Curtis Howard and flying RC airplanes with his friends Bryan McDonald and Curtis Howard. He also enjoyed piddling with electronics. He and grandson, Ryan put together a RC/Computer controlled lawn mower. He also enjoyed playing the Wii with the Grandsons although he got beat most of the time.
Patrick was preceded in death by his wife, Cindi and mother, Dorothy. He is survived by his dad, Melvin Bernshausen of Needville; son, Brandon and his wife, Megan of Sweeny; grandsons, Brandon Crosby, Ryan Bernshausen and Clair, Elijah, and Gabriel York of Sweeny; brothers, Arthur and wife, Cecilia of Danbury; Richard and wife, Tina of Canyon City; Rev. Mark and Wife Debbie of Easly, South Carolina; Toby and wife, Audrey of Angleton and Harry and wife, Cynthia of West Columbia.

Pallbearers will be brothers, Arthur, Richard, Mark, Toby and Harry Bernshausen and long time friend Curtis Howard. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons, Brandon Crosby and Ryan Bernshausen and long time friend Bryan McDonald.

Funeral services will be under the direction of Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia on Monday, March 14, 2016 at 10:00am with visitation beginning at 9:00am. Burial will follow at Sweeny Cemetery.
