Richard Sponable Jr.

Richard Jay Sponable Jr. passed away on July 17, 2018 at St. Luke's Hospital in Houston . He was born Feb. 27, 1944 in Amsterdam, New York to Richard and Shirley (Borst) Sponable. His loving mother still lives in New York.
Jay graduated from Lynch High School in New York and enlisted in the Air Force. He proudly served as a 2nd class airman, trained as a communication specialist and police officer, and was stationed in Karamursel, Turkey and England. He also worked many years on the New York interstate thruway where his father was the president. He then worked for Naylor Pipeline which moved him all over the U. S. with his family. Finally, he and his wife of 54 wonderful loving years owned Karpet King in West Columbia, Brazoria area for 40 years. They respectfully and honestly served all surrounding areas. He enjoyed woodworking, restoration, mechanical, maintenance (jack of all trades). He was always there to help family, friends and strangers. He was adored and will be deeply missed. He enjoyed time with children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and he was always working on or thinking about a project.
He is survived by his Mother, Shirley Sponable; son, Brett & wife, Christine, and their children, Jayson, Jessica & Justin; daughter, Mary Elizabeth Broderick & husband, Jeremy and their children, Jennifer & her husband, BJ Maycheck, Matthew Sponable & wife, Morgan, Amber Aries & husband, Santos, Marynda & Junior Peres, Jaymie & Mike Whipple; daughter, Pamela Lara and her children, Jeremy Lara & wife, Cristal, Aaron Lara & fiance' Felicia and Tyler Lara; 17+ grandchildren that meant the world to him. He is preceded in death by his father, Richard Jay Sponable Sr.; brother, Kenneth Sponable; sister, Lisa; son, Richard Jay Sponable III & wife, Terry; niece, Tammy; nephew, Kenneth Jr. and his loving wife, Mary Lou Driskill Sponable in 2014.
