Rita Kresta

Rita Jean Kresta, 81, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2016 in Angleton, Texas. She was born on January 31, 1935 in El Campo, Texas to John and Katherine (Wendel) Nohavitza. Growing up she lived in a small community, Taiton by El Campo; she graduated in 1953 from Cresent High School; she married the love of her life, George L. Kresta on November 27, 1952. They moved to Brazoria in 1966, she drove a bus for CBISD; she was a member of KJZT, Catholic Daughters; St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the Altar Society, Polka Lovers of America, a lifetime member of the Brazoria County Fair Association, and a charter member of the Brazoria Heritage Foundation. The family opened up the business Kresta's BBQ and Catering in 1980 and served the community for 22 years.

A funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 10:00am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Brazoria with Father Tin Pham officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:30pm at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in New Taiton with Father Gabriel and Deacons Jarrell Nohavitza and Pat Kubala. Visitation will be Friday May 27, 2016 from 4:00pm until 6:00pm at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with a rosary being recited at 6:00pm. Serving as pallbearers will be Clint Kresta, Chad Kresta, Cody Kresta, Tyler DuBose, Wade Raasch and Boston Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Harland Norris, James McCreary, Josef Hoffman, Matt Buckmaster, Wesley Schmidt and Josh Brown.

Rita is survived by sons, Paul Kresta and wife, Peggy; Greg Kresta and friend, Gail Myers; daughters, Jean Ann Raasch and husband, Zack; Janet DuBose and husband, Wayne; brothers, Jarrell Nohavitza and wife, Irene; Donald Nohavitza and wife, Rosemary; sisters, Dorothy Kubala; Kathryn Sellers and husband, Stanley; grandchildren, Cortney, Kimberly, Kasey, Chad, Clinton, Cody, Kenzie, Kyndra, Wade, LeAnn, Kristen, Rene, Katherine and Tyler; along with 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; son, John Edward Kresta; daughter-in-law, Kim Kresta; brother, John Nohavitza, Jr. and sister, Ruth Schaefer.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church in her memory.
