Robert Johnston

Robert Charles Johnston, of West Columbia, went home to be with the Lord on July 3, 2019 at the age of 87. He was born in Wharton, Texas to Fred Johnston and Ollie Hudgins Johnston.
Robert, "Bobby", graduated from Columbia High School and immediately went to work for Dow Chemical. During his employment, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served for two years. On his return, he married the love of his life, Betty Garner. Bobby resumed his job at Dow and retired with 35 years at the age of 55. He had an incredible gift for mechanics and was quick to help anyone in need. Bobby was a faithful member of the West Columbia Church of Christ.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Fred and Ollie Johnston, and brothers, Mickey Johnston and Jerry Johnston. Bobby is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Johnston; daughters, Peggy Daigle and Vickie Johnston; "adopted" daughter, Patti Warneke (Sehon); grandchildren, Kristie Daigle, Blake Warneke (Trina), and Stephanie Warneke; brother, Don Johnston; and numerous nieces and nephews. His great grandson, Oliver Warneke, is due in September.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia with David Weaks officiating. The family will be receiving friends on Friday, July 5, 2019 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm also at the funeral home. Those honored to serve as his pallbearers will be Sehon Warneke, Blake Warneke, Jim Stubbs, David Thompson, Bubby Loggins, and Ed Dulak.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to a charitable organization of choice.
