Robert Spurny

Robert was born August 15, 1926 in Buhl, Idaho. He came to Texas at the age of three. The family settled in Blessing, Texas. He moved from there to Van Vleck and then to Boling where he graduated high school in 1944. He joined the Merchant Marines (of which he was very proud) in World War II, traveling the Atlantic and the Pacific on tanker ships.

After arriving home in 1949 he stared working for Alamo Refining ( later to become Phillips 66) in Old Ocean. He married Kay Baade in Iago, Texas June 3, 1949; they were happily married for 67 1/2 years.

In 1950 during the Korean War he joined the Air Force. Robert and Kay returned to West Columbia and Phillips after the 4 years in the service. Robert retired from Phillips in 1985 as Accounting and Traffic Supervisor. He was a Ham Radio Operator from 1955 until 2016, a hobby that brought him enjoyment and satisfaction.

He is survived by his wife, Kay and one son, James and daughter-in-law, Karen whom he loved very much.

Services will be held 2:00pm, Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton with visitation being held Friday evening from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia.
