Roylene Monaghan

Roylene Estelle Monaghan, 85 of Sweeny, Texas passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Cypress Woods Nursing Home in Angleton, Texas. She was born December 22, 1930 in Georgetown, Texas to Roy and Willie Eunita (McNeese) McMurtrie. She was a registered nurse and most of her nursing career was spent working in nursing homes caring for the elderly; she was a member of First Baptist Church of Alpine, attended New Shores Baptist Church for the past 5 years, was a volunteer at DeJaVu Resale Shop benefitting Family Crisis Center of Big Bend and was a member of the Sunshine Singers. She taught Sunday school at First Baptist Lake Jackson and First Baptist Alpine for many years.

Funeral services will be held 11:00am, Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia with Br. Mark Brumbelow officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00am until service time. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Chris Monaghan, Matt Odom, Michael Matula, Gentry Poole, Shannon Delay, and Justin Hunter.

Roylene is survived by her sons, Russell Monaghan and wife, Lisa of Sweeny; William Randell Monaghan, Jr. of Lake Jackson; daughter, Bobbie Eunita Monaghan Hunter of Schertz; brother, Bill McMurtrie and wife, Pat of Horseshoe Bay; grandchildren, Chris Monaghan, Devin Monaghan, Roya Delay and husband, Shannon, Branda Poole and husband, Gentry, and Molly Matula and husband, Michael; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Kyra, Madison, Riley, Sadie and Teddy.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Randell Monaghan; sister, Bobbie Ann McMurtrie Davis and son-in-law, Tommy Hunter.
