Ruby Maude Galyean Mickey was born on November 10, 1922 in Sebastian, Texas and passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2018 in New Braunfels, Texas.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Jefferson Galyean and Maude Matilda Mincy Galyean; husband, Eugene Larry Mickey, Sr.; brothers, Jeff Galyean and John Galyean; sisters, Marilyn Richardson, Ruth Hobbins, Edith Beaugh, and Bonnie Brumbelow.

Ruby is survived by two sisters, Delphia Jackson of Lake Jackson, and Stella Kubecka of Caldwell; her children, Lois Wells and husband Scott of Magnolia and Larry Mickey and his wife Kathy of Canyon Lake; five grandchildren, Bret Wells and his wife Suzanne of Spring, Glen Wells and his wife, Wendy of Spring, Clint Mickey and his wife Bernadina of Canyon Lake, Cory Mickey and his wife Angie of Canyon Lake, and Kelly Lupo and her husband Alex of Palestine; twelve great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ruby felt blessed sharing her life with not only her grandchildren, but also her twelve great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly. "Grandmama" devoted her life to her husband and family and often bragged, "I have the best family."

Ruby was raised on a farm near Old Ocean, Texas. She attended a one room school house and later West Columbia High School. She graduated in 1939 at sixteen years old and was named class valedictorian. In the fall of 1939, Ruby enrolled at Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos, Texas. There Ruby met Eugene while he was serving in the United States Air Force and was stationed in the area. After they married, Ruby worked in the Budget and Fiscal Office at the air force base. When Eugene was discharged from the service, they moved to Sweeny, Texas. As her children were growing up, Ruby substituted in the Sweeny School District. Later, she was a window clerk at the Sweeny Post Office. Ruby retired from the Postal Service in 1982.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the Sweeny United Methodist Church with Alex Lupo officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 12:00 pm until service time. Burial will follow at Sweeny Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Ruby's grandsons, Bret and Glen Wells, Clint and Cory Mickey, as well as her great-grandsons, Mitchell and Jonathan Wells.
