Sandra Kay Schlitzkus (Hammond), 69 of West Columbia, TX passed away peacefully at her home, on July 27, 2018. Sandy was born on September 23, 1948, in Houston, TX to her parents, Garland and Mary Jo Hammond.
Sandy started her lifelong career, working at a local bank during high school and she met many friends within her community. Sandy graduated in 1967 from Columbia High School. She had a kind heart, beautiful smile, and was always dressed to a "T."
Sandy married the love of her life, James (Butch) Schlitzkus, in 1969. They enjoyed 43 wonderful years together before his passing in 2012. She and Butch met some lifelong friends, George and Sallie, Albert (Buckshot) and Sandra, Ernie and Brenda and many others.
Sandy enjoyed country music, playing cards, shopping for a great bargain, spending time with her family, but most of all, she loved her grandchildren. She was at every event for each of them until her health declined.
Sandy is survived by her son, Kevin Wallace, and his wife Tracy, her daughter, Angie Ohlen, and her husband Wade, her brother, Kenny Hammond, and her sister, Kathleen Hammond. She leaves behind her grandchildren: Travis, Kelly, Sydney, Carson and Abbie. Sandy was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Kayson and Jhett, as well as many other cherished family and friends.
She is preceded in death by parents, Garland and Mary Jo Hammond, and husband, James (Butch) Schlitzkus.
A visitation for Sandy will be held at 1:00 in the afternoon on Monday, July 30, 2018 at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia, TX. A celebration of her life will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend David Barclay officiating. Pallbearers are Josh Curtis, Travis Griffin, Greg Korenek, Carson Ohlen, Wade Ohlen, and Joe Schlitzkus. Honorary pallbearer is Kenny Hammond.
In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions in Sandy's memory may be directed to First Baptist Church, 226 S. Broad St. West Columbia, TX 77486, IPH Hospice, 190 Abner Jackson Parkway Lake Jackson, TX 77566, or the organization of your choice.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dalene Morris for her excellent care. She was a blessing to, both, Sandy and her family for the past two years.
