Shirley F Trahan, born Shirley Marie Flournoy on February 3, 1931, in Dayton, TX, passed away on June 5, 2024, at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, TX after a valiant battle against angiosarcoma. She was a cherished wife to the late William 'Bill' James Trahan.
Shirley's love for life extended far beyond her earthly presence. Among many things, she loved people, anything West Columbia, and baseball. She was all about anything she felt was good for people and West Columbia and was involved in many causes towards that goal. She was on the young end of the Greatest Generation and served it well as did so many of her friends from West Columbia. They were a force not to be denied when they united behind a cause. Baseball and softball were lifelong passions as she watched her children play, then continued to watch and follow any local kids along the same path. She recognized and knew a Ballplayer whether baseball or softball. She followed and cheered her beloved Houston Astros with passion (was very vocal!) and saw no reason for very many losses. She was notorious for posting her feelings and thoughts about the games on Facebook. She was also a gamer. Oh how she loved a game be it Words with Friends, Solitaire, Scrabble, Bridge, and of course any form of baseball. Her passions brought her much joy and created friendships that spanned several generations. She also was a huge fan and follower of her granddaughter Taylor, her favorite barrel racer.
She is survived by her loving children Janel Trahan McCallister of West Columbia, TX; Bill Trahan (Lore Baker) of Friendswood, TX; and Lisa Langdon of West Columbia, TX. Shirley also leaves behind two beloved grandchildren Taylor Langdon of Ardmore, OK and Liz Crawley-Trahan of Houston, TX. She is also survived by nephew Damon Flournoy of Sour Lake, TX, and niece Guyla Angell (Mark) of Santa Fe, TX. In addition to her immediate family, she is also survived by numerous cousins, and dear friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill, parents David and Bonnie Flournoy, and brother Charles David (Bubba) Flournoy.
Pallbearers are James Olan Chamblee, Elbert Wayne Chamblee, Judson Chamblee, Dan Chamblee, Gene Hernandez, and J.C. Matcheski. Honorary pallbearers are James Ray Moffitt, Vern Mueller, Damon Flournoy and Steve Anderson.
Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Friday June 14th from 5-7 p.m. at C.T. Baker Funeral Home, 634 S. Columbia Dr. West Columbia. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday June 15th at 5:00 p.m. at the Columbia Methodist Church. Interment to follow at Cedar Lawn Haven of Rest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Shirley’s memory to Central Emergency Medical Service, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, or Columbia Methodist Church. These organizations were very dear to our mom.
Shirley's zest for life and her kind heart will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She will also be missed by her many friends on Facebook as she never hesitated to post her feelings or opinions. We may not have always seen eye to eye, but she never wavered or hesitated to voice her opinion and most of the time she was correct! May she rest in eternal peace as her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who loved her.
